Welcome to Women in Physical Sciences

Welcome to the undergraduate Women in Physical Sciences club! The purpose of our organization is to create a supportive atmosphere for all women in every physical science field. Our club offers social and career development, including monthly lunches with professors, workshops to build research and presentation skills, and opportunities to attend conferences all dedicated to supporting women in sciences. Please feel free to give us some feedback so we can make this club even more awesome.

CB Luce Program

Hi everyone!

The CB Luce Program is offering stipends for undergraduate women, specifically those in their second or third year. This sitehttp://www.ugresearchsci.ucla.edu/luce.htm has more information on the application process, as well as the link to the actual application.

In order to apply, you will need to prepare a one to two page research statement, a one-page personal statement, and a recommendation letter from the professor.

Grad student panel!

On Thursday, November 12th, WPS hosted an all-women physics grad student panel! Our panel was comprised of five amazing physics and astronomy grad students: Samantha, Laura, Elizabeth, Helen, and Gurleen. They gave aspiring undergraduate physics students a more detailed (and realistic) idea of grad school. We learned about their interesting research, the graduate student life, the application process, gap year decisions, and much more! A big thank you to the panelists and for everyone who showed up!

Interesting Article: So Few Women in Science

If you believe the playing field is equal, then any action you take is privileging women. But if you know that women are being undervalued, then you must do something, because otherwise you will be losing people who are qualified.
-Meg Urry, professor of physics and astronomy at Yale
